As the first and only Maria Montessori educational center in Georgia, Montessori Kindergarten has gained market recognition, including being named the No.1 Kindergarten by the Golden Brand awards for the second time, reflecting its consistent focus on quality, authenticity and international standards.

We spoke with Inga Pataraia, Director of Montessori Association Georgia, about the organization’s approach and future plans.

Q. Winning the Golden Brand title for the second time is a notable achievement. What does this recognition mean for you?

A. For us, this is more than just a prestigious award. It represents a strong mandate of trust from parents. Being named the number one Montessori kindergarten for the second time confirms that the path we have chosen – authentic Montessori education based on international standards – is the right one. It reflects not only our professionalism, but also the daily trust of parents, their engagement and the results they see in their children.

Q. How important is location and environment in delivering high-quality early education?

A. Environment plays a crucial role in early childhood development. A peaceful, eco-friendly and safe setting creates a foundation where a child feels secure and balanced. In our philosophy, the environment is the “third teacher,” which is why every detail – both indoors and outdoors – is carefully designed to support independence, concentration and free development. Safety is ensured on both physical and emotional levels, creating a stable and nurturing space for every child.

Q. What is the core value of the Montessori methodology and why is it especially relevant today?

A. The key value of the Montessori approach, developed by Maria Montessori, is respect for the child, recognition of individuality and honoring each child’s natural pace of development. This is particularly effective for modern children because it gives them freedom of choice while fostering critical thinking, responsibility and inner discipline – skills essential for success in the 21st century.

Q. You work with children from a very early age. What is most important during this stage of development?

A. The period from infancy onward is the most sensitive stage in human development. At this time, children need a safe environment, stability, sensory stimulation and emotional support. The Montessori approach helps them take their first steps toward independence – through self-care, coordination of movement, communication and active exploration of the world.

Q. How do you balance international Montessori standards with local cultural context?

A. We fully adhere to international Montessori standards while harmoniously integrating them with the Georgian cultural context. Our educators are qualified specialists with international certifications and are continuously engaged in professional development. Beyond academic knowledge, they are expected to uphold high ethical standards and demonstrate deep respect for each child.

Q. What role does multilingual education play in your program?

A. Our language program is based on the principle of natural acquisition. Children absorb languages through their environment and everyday communication. A multilingual setting enhances cognitive development, increases cultural awareness and fosters a global mindset, making children more competitive in the future.

Q. Your program includes a wide range of extracurricular activities. How do you select them?

A. All activities are chosen based on a holistic development approach. From cooking and gardening to ballet, chess and art workshops, each activity supports the development of practical, creative, social and logical skills. We place special emphasis on independence, responsibility, collaboration and creative thinking.

Q. Nutrition is also a key part of your offering. How do you approach it?

A. Healthy nutrition is an integral part of the educational process. Our menu is based on balanced, eco-friendly and diverse products. Children receive five meals a day, which supports their physical development, energy levels and ability to stay focused throughout the day.

Q. How important is interaction with nature in early education?

A. Daily contact with nature is essential for a child’s harmonious development. Our green outdoor space allows children to play, observe and explore in a natural environment while developing social skills. It strengthens emotional stability, a sense of responsibility and care for the environment.

Q. What are your strategic priorities for the coming years?

A. Our strategy is built on continuous quality improvement and deeper integration of international standards. We plan to expand our programs, introduce new educational initiatives and strengthen international partnerships. Our goal is for Montessori Association Georgia to become a leading professional platform in the wider region, setting a high standard for early childhood education.
