iPhone 15 Trial

The iPhone 14 is less than four months old, but initial production of the iPhone 15 is already underway to work out the kinks.

As 9To5Mac reports, the iPhone 15 is currently undergoing “new production introduction” (NPI) trial production at Apple’s manufacturing partner Foxconn.

NPI means there’s an actual production line running for the new smartphone, with the aim being to discover any problems with the assembly, spot potential efficiency gains, and identify ways to save on manufacturing costs/time before the inevitable shift to mass production.

The iPhone 15 is expected to offer more of the same in terms of available models, but a big shift in terms of connectivity.

Apple will likely mirror the iPhone 14 models and launch an iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

However, all four handsets will use a USB-C port and the base models should include the Dynamic Island, which was limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max for the current hardware generation.

The other big change is Apple’s expected switch to using a 3nm A17 processor. TSMC’s 3nm process results in a 70% logic density gain, 15% speed improvement, and 30% power reduction, so the iPhone 15 should be faster with a longer battery life assuming Apple keeps the batteries the same size as in the iPhone 14 models.
